How we built this practice

Forest Bear emerged from a gap we kept encountering: organisations wanted to act on climate and biodiversity, but existing consulting models were either too superficial or prohibitively expensive.

The origin

In 2019, a group of environmental scientists and systems designers working across Belfast noticed a pattern. Local businesses and institutions were commissioning sustainability reports that would sit on shelves. Compliance was checked, but nothing changed.

The problem wasn't intent. It was implementation. Reports didn't translate into operational shifts because they weren't designed to.

We founded Forest Bear to close that gap. Instead of audit-style assessments, we build transformation roadmaps. Instead of one-off engagements, we embed with teams through execution phases.

Team collaboration on environmental projects

Our working model

Discovery phase

We map your current state: emissions sources, waste streams, energy dependencies, biodiversity impacts. This isn't a checklist. We interview stakeholders, trace material flows, and identify hidden leverage points.

Systems design

We model interventions using scenario analysis. What happens if you shift suppliers? Redesign packaging? Install renewable infrastructure? We quantify trade-offs before you commit resources.

Implementation support

This is where most consultancies exit. We stay. We help you navigate procurement, train internal teams, troubleshoot failures, and adjust strategies as new data emerges.

Verification and reporting

We measure impact against baseline metrics and prepare documentation for disclosure frameworks like GRI, CDP, and TCFD. Our reports are designed for both internal learning and external accountability.

Who we are

Our team combines ecological science, industrial design, data analytics, and policy expertise. We're not generalists. Each consultant has deep domain knowledge in specific environmental systems.

What unites us is a shared rejection of performative sustainability. We don't help organisations appear green. We help them become regenerative.

What we believe

Complexity is inevitable

Environmental systems are inherently complex. Simplifying them into linear solutions creates more problems. We design for complexity, not against it.

Measurement precedes improvement

If you can't quantify it, you can't manage it. We establish rigorous measurement protocols before proposing interventions.

Nature as model

The most resilient systems are biological. We study natural processes and apply those principles to industrial design.

Transparency builds trust

We show our work. Every claim is sourced, every model is documented, every failure is analyzed.

Work with us

If your organisation is ready to move beyond compliance and toward regenerative practice, we can help.
